Network Layer Tutorial

This tutorial will teach you about the layering models most commonly used in Networking: the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model, and the Transmission Control Protocol / Internet Protocol model (aka "TCP/IP suite").

The content in this tutorial is divided into three main sections:
  • An overview, describing the two models and their respective layers

  • A layer simulator, showing you firsthand how the network layers transform data messages and allowing you to see how configuration changes affect the transmissions in real time

  • Online quizzes, allowing you to test your knowledge with immediate feedback

You can start at any time, and navigate the tutorial site in any order you choose.
